A series of local bands have been signed up for Bristol's biggest firework show taking place this year on Friday 2 November.

The Downend Firework Show is an annual event and is offering musicians in the city the chance to perform in front of audiences of 10,000 people.

Included in the line-up will be folk-inspired Ant Noel and the Peabody Drakes; Polly and the Billet Doux who have been described as a combination of blues, country, folk, soul and gospel and the four-piece Peter and the Harmonics.

All bands will be performing acoustic sets before the main event kicks off.

Andrew Simmonds, who organises the event said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for local musical talent to show what they can do in front of a huge crowd. It provides them with a platform and experience at one of Bristol's biggest events.

"The acts we have lined up this year are superb and we're all really excited to watch them perform. These bands are becoming critically acclaimed in Bristol and the audience are going to love them.

"Live music is one of the things that sets us apart from other organised displays in Bristol. It creates a great atmosphere and really gets the crowds going."

The Downend Firework Show is now in its 41st year, organised by the Great Western Round Table. This year the event is raising money for Macmillan Cancer Care, Children in Need and a host of other worthy local causes.

Also at the event will be a children's firework display, entertainment and refreshments. The display is being supplied by Skyburst the Firework Co. which earlier this year performed the Olympic Torch display from the Suspension Bridge.

As with last year, BBC Radio Bristol will be providing the entertainment stage hosted by morning show presenter John Darvall.

Andrew continued: "The bands performing at this year's event are in great company. Previously performing on the stage we've had Peter Andre and All Saints.

"It's going to be a night of brilliant entertainment, amazing fireworks and Bristol spirit!"

Tickets are now available to buy online at www.downendfireworks.co.uk for £4.50. Advance tickets are £3.50 from various outlets and tickets on the gate cost £5 for adults and £3 for children.

The Downend Firework Show is sponsored by Bristol Audi and Mama Bears Day Nursery. To get involved or find out more about the GWRT please visit http://www.gwrt.co.uk/
