Overhanging Trees

Most of you will have travelled on a D/Decker Bus from Bristol to Yate.

Have you been upstairs when the bus pulls in on the Cranleigh Court stop and wondered how long it will be before the front  window is smashed !!  Remember the bus that hit a tree branch on the Fishponds main road.

I know the trees are growing in private gardens but surely for passengers safety to say nothing for the structure of the bus, these branches should be lobbed off.

Could it be that this is the thinking behind 'First' that Yate always has the old stock running on our roads!!

This situation  has existed for many years now and I find it incomprehensible that nothing has been been done.

When Bristol Omnibus was in charge an 'open top' would have been sent out and the offending trees cut back.

I hope Council and First Bus will read this blog and action will follow

It could add to the impact if you email Streetcare as well on StreetCare@southglos.gov.uk, quoting reference no 202248.

Glad to get South Glos. take on the offending trees. I would hope their letter to the owners fo the land on which the trees grow have been made aware that they my be liable under Public Liability law if an accident occurred and as we are talking about a public service vehicle, any claim would be hurrendous from both the vehicle owners and the passengers alike.

I appreciate Streetcares' hands are tied and I am in no way criticising anyone, but belive this is a very serious situation and should be resolved as soon as possible.

South Glos have now replied as follows: "Thank you for your email regarding the trees near the Cranleigh Court Junction of Station Road, Yate. We wrote to the residents some time ago with regards to their trees and so far 2 residents have undertaken the necessary works. I have spoken to the other residents who are making arrangement for the works to be carried out. There is dispute over the ownership of one tree which we are trying to resolve as soon as possible."

"We are responsible for safe passageway of vehicles on our highways and we rely a lot on members of the public reporting areas where trees overhang. For those who wish to report these indirectly via your website, may I ask that you direct them to our Streetcare helpdesk on 01454 868000. Helpdesk can then log their details so that we can report back to them and we will have their details in case we need to ask further questions."
