YATE took another important step away from the wrong end of the Evo-Stik Southern League Division One South & West table with a comfortable win over basement side Stourport Swifts.
The opening exchanges were even, but, as the first half wore on, Yate began to get on top and Jake Cox was just off target with a shot and Hector Mackie also went close to scoring.
Yate opened the scoring in the 40th minute when Matt Groves, pictured, cut inside before unleashing a powerful drive into the top corner.
The score was doubled with only three minutes of the second half played. Mackie found the net this time after he picked up a loose ball inside the penalty area.
Yate were dominant and only some good saves from home goalkeeper Haydn Witcombe, from Groves and Dave Stone, kept the scoreline at 2-0.
The visitors, however, continued to press forward in search of more goals and the points weresecured near the end when Groves fired in his second goal.
Yate return to action with a home game against Clevedon on Boxing Day.
