Yate Sort It Centre to Increase Recyling Times and Materials

As of next week South Gloucestershire Council's SORT IT!* Centre sites across the district will be open for longer.

The recycling centres in Mangotsfield, Yate and Thornbury are now open every day from 8am until 6.30pm until Friday, September 30.

The Yate Sort It!* Centre is provided for the sole use of South Gloucestershire residents. You cannot dispose of commercial waste at any Sort It!* centre.

Summer Opening: 1st April to 30th September Monday to Sunday 8.00am- 6.30pm

 Winter Opening: 1st October to 31st March Monday to Sunday 8.00am -  4.30pm

 

Mike Wildman, operations manager for SITA UK in South Gloucestershire, said: "Our staff look forward to helping local residents make the most of the new and existing services available at the SORT IT!* Centres. By working together, we can further improve household recycling levels in South Gloucestershire."

 

At Yate Sort It!* centre you can recycle:

- Asbestos – Maximum 6 sheets per project, double wrapped in sealed plastic

- Car batteries and household (dry-cell) batteries

- Cardboard

- Fire Extinguishers – Household sizes only

- Food and drinks cans

- Glass bottles and jars

- Green garden waste

- Hardcore (rubble) and soil

- Large electrical equipment (i.e. cookers and washing machines)

- Paper

- Plasterboard - maximum 6 sheets or bags per project

- Refrigerators and freezers

- Scrap metal

- Small electrical equipment (i.e. kettles, irons, toasters)

- Televisions and computer monitors

- TetraPaks

- Textiles and shoes (tied together in pairs)

- Used engine oil - 1 Gallon (5 litres) per visit

- Vehicle tyres – Maximum 4 per household per year

- Wood (including MDF and chipboard)

New materials from 1st August 2011

- Books

- Bric-a-brac for reuse e.g. electrical items, garden hand tools, furniture, crockery, bikes etc

- Cooking Oil

- DVDs & CDs

- Ink cartridges

- Mobile phones

- Rigid or dense plastics e.g. plastic garden furniture, children's toys, buckets etc

Please Note:

Trailers with boxes longer than two metres will not be allowed on to this site. This policy is in place to help reduce delays caused by large trailers manoeuvring round the sites while still allowing householders to use smaller trailers to deliver waste.

If you come to this site in a van of transit size type or larger, there are restrictions in place on the times you will be able to access this site to deposit your waste. Please refer the page on limits and restrictions for more information.
