Yate Town came agonisingly close to reaching the first round proper of the FA Cup on Saturday after leading Newport County 3-1 at one stage at Lodge Lane.
The visitors though clawed back two goals – one with seconds to go - to send the tie to a reply at Rodney Parade on Tuesday.
Yate manager Rob Cousins admitted his side tired towards the end of the game, while Newport boss Justin Edinburgh was relieved to rescue a replay, which will take place at Rodney Parade.
In the first period of the fourth round FA Cup qualifier, things looked to be going to plan for Newport when they scored first through a Jefferson Louis header.
The home side produced a stunning fight back in the second half though buoyed by a record 1,190 crowd. Tom Knighton pulled Yate level before setting up Mitchell Page to make it 2-1.
A brilliant individual goal from Matt Groves gave Yate a two-goal advantage and the unthinkable seemed possible.
Newport though dug deep and pulled a goal back through Aaron O'Connor before heartbreak for the home side – a Tony James header squared the tie.
The winners of Tuesday's replay will play Cheltenham Town at Whaddon Road next month.
