Yate Common Carpark to go Ahead

Even though we all oppose the idea, Yate Common will become a car park!
-
Is this the start of the end for Yate Common
Residents in Wellstead Avenue, Sunnyside Lane, Moorland Road and Thorn close we given the chance to vote on the car park proposal and out of 128 responses, 68 people voted in favour of the car park proposal.
The other proposal made for Yate Common was the proposal for extra football pitches. The environment and Planning committee has postponed the decision on the pitches until they have made a clear decision on the new parking plans.
Many people have found the proposal for building on the common immoral and wrong. Friends of Yate Common chairman, Lynn Kendall has vowed to step down if the plans go ahead.
I cannot quite believe we have come to the point where we are turning common land into car parks. Is this even legal? I always thought that common land would be there forever, I thought the fields and meadows we all played in as children would remain for generations to come. It seems I was wrong.
Surely, there is a way of stopping this barbaric behaviour before we lose the whole common to car parks, supermarkets and Astroturf?
Are you outraged with this decision?
Did you oppose the plans, or do you support them?

Very unhappy about this. are they actually going to turn it in a car park or is their anyway to protest against it or is it too late?
this makes me very sad if it is allowed. I have lived right next to it all my life, played with friends there, walked the dogs there... its a big part of me and my life and i am sure it is to everyone else in yate!

ReportOops THERE not their. Oh I didn't think the Tories got a majority Chris so how could they run the country as they pleased ? Come on, you can't be happy supporting these draconian diktats, be honest.

ReportThe alternative was to let this lot of Tories run the country with no limits at all on what they would do. Lib Dems are a small part of the coalition, but have managed to punch above their weight, winning some things that no way the Tories would have given people if they were running the country outright. I have been keeping a list of things I cannot for one moment think the Tories would have done, if in charge absolutely.
• Forced an increase in the income tax threshold to £10,000
• Introduced a £900m crackdown on tax avoidance and evasion
• Reintroduced the link between pensions and earnings (something the Tories scrapped in the 1980s)
•• Increasing the rate of Capital Gains Tax to 28% for higher rate taxpayers while keeping it at 18% for basic rate taxpayers.
• No like for like replacement of Trident this Parliament
• Scrapped the ID card scheme
Introduced a £2.5bn pupil premiumwhich will bring an extra £430 per pupil for every low income pupil in our area to schools.
•
• £800m for short break provision for children with disabilities and their families and £400m for carers breaks – supporting carers and people with disabilities
• Set up a UK wide Green Investment Bank to invest in green infrastructure
• £830m to put a digital hub in every community
• Investing far more directly in dementia research
• £70m new cash to help the NHS support people going home from hospital
PS glad we agree about something. Any idea how to stop the parking Barrance?
