YATE SHOPPING CENTRE BANS ALL CYCLES

Yate Shopping Centre is tightening the rules over cycles by introducing a cycle free zone.

Anyone entering the Centre with a bicycle will be requested to leave the centre via the walkway they entered and will be advised of the nearest cycle rack location.

Andrew Lowrey, Yate Shopping Centre Manager said "We have had several complaints that people are either riding or wheeling cycles through the Centre and ignoring requests made by our security team not to do so.

"The safety of our customers, visitors and staff is extremely important and therefore a decision has been made to ban cycles at Yate Shopping Centre with immediate effect.

"We encourage people to visit the Centre and to travel by bicycle, however, we would kindly request that cyclists utilise the ample cycle racks located around the shopping centre.

"We expect a noticeable increase in footfall when the new Tesco Extra store opens on the 24th October, so hopefully these new measures will prevent future issues and make the Shopping Centre a safer place for all shoppers."

I hope the no cycle policy will make a big difference to the centre. I will certainly walk around with a bit more ease once the word has got round that they are not allowed in the centre any more.

If we had more lampposts, perhaps there would be room for people with and people without cycles.

Why not address the cause instead of tinkering around the edges looking for irrelevant solutions that will not work.

When will the bus shelter [outside Tesco] be finished? It is well overdue! Also, are the markings around the outsides clear enough for all to see? M James
