Not enforceable on private land
By The Bristol Post | Sunday, June 17, 2012, 16:21
I WAS interested in the letter from Mrs M Morgan, Bedminster (The Post June 12) .
As with other similar letters about people receiving fines in private car parks (Lidl, McDonalds etc) something needs to be pointed out. These so called 'fines' are not enforceable in law. I believe if you refuse to pay they can if they wish take you to court to try to obtain this 'fine' . But given the adverse publicity that may occur this is highly unlikely. Car parks run by councils, however, are an entirely different thing. I hope, Mrs Morgan, you told them where to stick the 'fine'.
Perhaps The Post or other readers can confirm (or not) how correct I am about this.
