We are lucky to have had so much investment in our school system in the past few years.

In the past year, we have seen a key investment of £16m inThe Ridings Federation, which has come to fruition with its exam success providing the proof that the investment was worth it.

The Ridings Federation is the partnership of Yate International Academy and Winterbourne International Academy. Formerly King Edmund Community School, Yate International Academy is part of the Pathfinder Programme and has become the lead educational development centre in conjunction with the fellow academy in Yate, The Winterbourne Academy, formerly The Ridings High School.

The strong development programmes and investment in education have made The Ridings Federation strong contenders in the league table system. With the first students taking exams this summer, The Ridings Federation has provided strong evidence that the programme is set to succeed with a 98% pass rate at A Level and 74% of students achieving five A* - C grades at GCSE.

With all the hype surrounding the new federation, other secondary schools seem to be over looked. During the exam season both Brimsham Green and Culverhill have seen another success year with a great number of students achieving A*-C grades.

It is hard with so much attention on the new federation structure to know whether a federation school is a better path for students. Have you compared the schools ready for your child’s progression in education, have you found key differences that have had an effect on your decision?

Not forgetting Primary education, Yate also has Primary education centres that have too celebrated success this year. The Ridge Junior School was congratulated by OFSTED this year for its strong sense of community within the school.

Several other primary schools in the Yate and Sodbury area have also improved and achieved in the past academic year. Our primary schools have improved in many areas of the past academic years and OFSTED reports have shown that this improvement is set to continue.

YatePeople has a full directory of local schools and league table information. Take a look and see how your child's school is performing.

What do you think of the schools in Yate? Do you choose a school for your child purely on location, or do league tables make a difference? And is the investment on secondary education worth it?
