Could the public gain access to Coopers Lake in Yate

Have any of you heard of or seen the Lake behind Coopers factory in Yate?

What is the secret of Coopers Lake in Yate?
When on my mission to find Yate’s hidden secrets, on several occasions, a hidden lake came up in conversation.
Hidden behind Coopers factory and a residential home is a lake that appears to be blocked from public access. Only those with access to the home or factory can see this hidden gem.
I have several appeals for information regarding this lake.
What I really want to know is whether the public has ever had access to this lake. Was this once available to the public to view and walk around or has it always been secluded?
The reason I ask this is, when tweeting on YatePeople’s twitter (@yatepeople for those who don’t already following us) about Coopers Lake, the idea of a petition to open the lake to the public was talked about.
What I want to know, is what you know about the lake, the factory, the residential home and the land surrounding. Is this an area we can give back to the public is it a private area partitioned off for a particular reason.
The World Wide Web is good for some things, but local inside info it sometimes lacks.
What do you know about Coopers Lake, and would you like to see this lake opened to the public?

I have been secretly visiting the lake jan 2012, I was putting in bait and managed to see 2 small pike. I cleared away fishing rubbish left by previous visitors. The lake is like a jungle and has several badger setts amongst the undergrowth. I got rumbled by a man in a boat who clearly wasn't happy I was there, I tried to have a friendly chat but he clearly wasn't friendly and although biting his lip he asked me to leave, he asked how I got in and where I was from. I said it was a lovely lake and it would be nice for the public to have access to it and maybe a fishing club use it, he said the site was going to be residential and the lakes future was undecided, he said the public would never see it and that it was 20 metres deep. A real shame why have something like that locked away from the public and not even use it yourself, hardly surprising curious people sneak on. I will be keeping a close eye on it and see what happens in the future. Lets hope the council get involved and make it part of the plans to open the lake up. Also if the owner of the lake and Im not sure who that is doesn't want to open it up or use why don't they pass it on to someone who will, also lots of house that back onto the lake use it as a dumping ground for their rubbish.

ReportI was talking to someone in the Heritage Centre a few months ago and Coopers Lake was mentioned and I asked about the rumour of the WW2 aircraft and she said that as far as she was aware no plane came down in that area and she has lived near there all her life.

ReportIn answer to Kitty91. The story of coopers lake started during ww2, as it was then, the whole site was a prisoner of war camp. Some time after the war, a brickwork started, and that is where the lake came from. There is a story that as they dug the clay (I presume that the clay was of sufficent quality to make bricks) they broke into a underground spring. The clay pit then flooded. So that is where Coopers Lake came from. As for swimming/fishing, I would not. As there is a lot of undergroth close to the surface. I should know as I used to work there before the factory closed,
