Yate Shopping Centre is beating the recession

Brilliant news reported in the Evening Post this weekend regarding Yate Shopping Centre.
According to figures, Yate Shopping Centre has seen a 6.5 per cent rise on visitors to the complex and numbers are set to rise again.
Figures showed that between January and April 4.2 million people passing through the shopping centre. That is an incredible figure.
It appears, that although a number of business failed to make it through the recession, the ones left standing are seeing a rise in customer numbers that is only set to increase again. When Tesco under goes its renovation in August it is hoped that this will bring even more visitors to the centre.
The Evening Post also reports that The Swan pub is also set to be demolished soon to make room for more parking and with Tesco due to develop an under- ground parking space, there will be 1,545 more car parking spaces.
I cannot wait to see Yate Shopping Centre once the redevelopments are completed. I hope that the surge in visitors will encourage more stores to come to Yate.
What stores do you think will encourage more people to visit Yate?

I think Yate Shopping centre is a fantastic asset for the Yate and Sodbury area. The whole centre and the land surrounding it should be designated as a special development zone with a dedicated team put together to enhance and improve the area for local residents. By that I don't mean blocking investment and development and planting a few bl**dy trees. I mean by carefully planning which types of development will add choice, value and improve our primary commercial district. For example..... A small restaurant/cinema/ shopping precint on the overflow carpark, similar to St Phillips, Bristol. To provide a wider range of employment opportunities and reduce commuting a few high quality office projects could be encouraged in the centre which would increase footfall in the shopping centre too. Tthere are too many doctor's surgeries gobbling up valuable town centre land. The Westgate Centre is awesome, but surely Courtside and the other one could've been built anywhere in the town. The fire station and ambulance station could be moved out to the edge of town and valuable development land reclaimed. Maybe then a decent department store and small budget hotel could also bring activity , business, jobs, prosperity and choice to a town centre , which is great, but could be so much better. A dedicated development zone and development team would ensure a focused, joined up approach without conflicting plans and ideas and not dictated to by one big company or other. Any other thoughts ?
