Yate's Traffic Nightmare Has Arrived - Station Road is Closed

There

have been signs up warning us for weeks that this chaos was about to commence

but today I witnessed it myself. Station Road in Yate has been closed for

re-surfacing and maintenance and will remain closed for 26 days.

The

road will be closed from 1st June until 26th June. I am assuming that works

will slowly travel up the road and sections at a time will be

available. All traffic has been diverted around the shopping centre until

the road fully re-opens.

Station Road

has been in need of major repair work for a while now, but what about the

businesses along that road. Will The Lawns and The White Lion lose business?

That’s the last thing we need, more pubs suffering and loosing trade.

To my

surprise this morning, it was not that busy on the diversion and it took me

only a maximum of 10 extra minutes to make my way to the other side.

But once I

had got to the other side and had parked up, I began to think maybe the council

had lulled me into a false sense of security. Of course the traffic would be fine

this week, the first week of the diversion, it is after all half term week.

What will the

traffic be like next week in rush hour/school run traffic? Also, does anyone

know any good alternative diversion routes to bypass the queues surrounding the

shopping centre?
