Could you help youngsters crossing the road to school?
South Gloucestershire Counil has launched an appeal in Yate to find a number of
lollipop people following a severe shortage.
The council need to fill nine posts in all, including four at schools in Yate.
Road safety officer Wendy Feltham said: "We
are looking for people who are community minded. It is a paid post but people normally want to do the job rather than just want the money."
The vacancies in Yate are at Tyndale Primary, North Road Primary, St Paul's Primary and Yate International Academy Woodlands Primary Phase and there is one in Winterbourne.
Some schools have been without a lollipop patrol for up to six months and despite a council campaign, no new recruits have come forward.
Senior road safety officer Alan Hale said: "School
crossing patrols are a much-valued part of their local communities performing a really important job
"Staff often find it a hugely rewarding and sociable role and many stay in their post for years and years."
