YATE: Detectives investigating a sex attack on a teenager in a Yate park want to hear from anyone who saw two girls in the area on the day of the alleged assault.

Kingsgate Park was sealed off throughout Tuesday while the scene was examined.

It has now re-opened but house-to-house inquiries continued in surrounding streets yesterday.

Police said they want to speak with anyone who saw the teenage girls sitting on a pink blanket at around 8pm on Monday.

Detective Inspector Jill Kells said: “It seems the girls were drinking alcohol and although they have been interviewed by specially trained officers, we don’t currently have a clear picture of what has happened.

“One of the girls went home, while the other was found in the park by her parents. We believe they had been speaking with four boys aged 16 or 17 during the day.”

People are asked to call police on 0845 456 7000 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
