A YOUNG entrepreneur is back in the town he once had a market stall in to open his fourth shop.

Shaun Oates, 26, has just opened The Real Deal at the old fruit and veg shop in Church Street , Newent, the latest in his line of discount stores in the country.

Shaun said: “I have three other shops, one in Cinderford, one in Yate and one in Evesham. But, on Monday I opened in Newent.

“I used to work on the market at the Market House in the town every Thursday for about three-and-a-half years.

“We sold everything from toilet rolls to tools to toothpaste.

“In the shop we had everything we had before and more, including stationary, toiletries, home ware, toys, dog beds and chews.

“It is a discount store with items from 49p to £40 but most are around 99p.”

Shaun, originally from Ross-on-Wye, now lives in Yate, Bristol said he will have three members of staff working at the shop.

And said he is pleased to be back in the town. He said: “There is a great atmosphere in Newent and people are always interested to come and see what is happening.

“People have already come up to me and say they are glad to see me back. It has been about three years since I was here so it is nice they remember me.”

The business owner said he hopes people will come and see the new business for themselves.

Welcome

Shaun added: “Hopefully people will come in and have a look at what we have to offer. We have so much stock people can’t walk in without finding something to buy, there is something for everyone.”

Newent’s deputy mayor David Blick welcomed the new shop.

He said: “It is always good to see empty shops being used.

“This is a big space to fill and hopefully it will attract a lot of people into it and will liven up that side of the street a bit.”
