Does Chipping Sodbury Want A Waitrose?

Surely there is not enough custom for another supermarket in the area.

I have been reading the proposal for a Waitrose supermarket on the Barnhill Quarry site and I cannot decide whether it is a great thing for Chipping Sodbury or an un-necessary addition.

Seeing as Tesco in Yate is due for re-development soon and there is already a Morrison’s and other smaller supermarkets within a small radius, is there a need for one in Chipping Sodbury?

What I would like to know is if residents in Chipping Sodbury would prefer a large supermarket on their doorstep or, do they like their local shops and prefer to travel into Yate and the surroundings to find a supermarket?

I can understand the need for large chains, but the beauty of Chipping Sodbury is its unique village feel that I feel would not benefit from a supermarket. I could be wrong, but I have been under the impression from some residents that they do not welcome the idea.

I can see the upside of the quality supermarket taking up residency in Chipping Sodbury, it would provide high quality food nearby and may even bring more trade back to the local area as there is less of a need to travel afar, but is Chipping Sodbury ready for this modernisation?

What do you think? Is this the correct way forward for the market town?

Jonny Holister told me that when the B&Q store opened it 'improved' his business!
They do sell nice wines in Waitrose.

I completely agree, I would like to see waitrose in Chipping Sodbury. I think it would make a great contribution to the area. I dont think that it will take from local trade, I think it would encourage more people to shop locally as they dont need to travel out of Sodbury for a large shop. They can do all their shopping within the town.

I can see the need for a quality supermarket in the area. There are no high quality stores near by and the choice in Yate is very limited. I welcome Waitrose to Chipping Sodbury.
