Future Of Yate's Speed Cameras

We have all heard over the past few days that Oxfordshire is

poised to loose all its speed cameras and last year Swindon Borough became the

first council to loose all its speed cameras, but what about Yate’s cameras?

Oxfordshire council members have said that cutting the cameras will save

£600,000. Although they are being forced to cut their cameras due to large scale cuts, if Yate was to

cut its cameras too, how much money would the council have to place elsewhere

in the community?

I have always wondered if all the speed cameras in Yate were

serving their purpose. Have they lowered the accident rate and made the roads

safer or are they redundant in their purpose?

I’m not sure they should cut all cameras, but there a

questionable number of them that are placed in areas that don’t seem to require

them. Outside schools and in busy residential areas that have a main road

running through I completely agree with their use, but others are surely just

council money boxes.

When driving around Yate yesterday, I witnessed no fewer than five cars speeding through the speed cameras and not one of them flashed. What is

the point in these cameras if they have no film inside them, are they that much

of a deterrent just standing there?

What do YatePeople think of the plans to loose all speed

cameras from Oxfordshire? Should Yate become the next Swindon and loose its

cameras?
