Star Match: Henbury Colts 3 Yate United 6: Hanham MInor League Under-11 Division B: Myles Carey played a blinder in goal for Henbury Colts and it took a four-goal blitz in the second game from Jamie Dwyer to seal victory for visiting Yate United.
The visitors created the first chance when Matthew Gerrard broke down the right and beat two opponents before playing a great ball across the face of goal, but none of his team-mates could reach it.
Henbury had the first shot on goal, Simon West hitting a good volley which Yate keeper Kieran Spary saved comfortably.
The game swung from end to end as both teams created opportunities, Henbury's coming primarily from Jamie Switalski, and Yate's through Ben Rankin, Josh Barton and Gerrard.
Yate's pressure paid off on seven minutes when Rankin gathered the ball from a Henbury goal-kick and played through Gerrard, who tucked it inside the far post past Carey, who was scrambling back towards his goal after being caught out of position.
Colts had a swift chance to level as Switalski's throw found Sam Haggett and his cross to the far post was volleyed just wide by Oliver Groves.
At the other end, Yate almost scored again when a super free-kick from Edward Gray seemed destined for the top corner, but Carey came across to pluck the ball out of the air.
The breathless end-to-end action continued as West had a shot cleared off the line by Yate defender Kyle Head and Carey was forced into a series of excellent saves, twice diving at the feet of Gerrard to stop certain goals.
Switalski fired in two raking long-range efforts on goal for Henbury, causing Spary to tip the ball out for a corner on one occasion. Rankin had a chance for Yate when he picked up a loose ball on the right and hit a terrific shot just over the bar, while Carey made another superb sliding save as Rankin broke into the box.
With half-time approaching, Henbury finally equalised when Haggett chipped a delightful square pass to Switalski, who ran on and struck it sweetly into the bottom corner of the net.
Yate immediately pushed forward from the restart through Gerrard, but once again Carey made a spectacular stop with his legs to deny the striker and keep the scores tied.
Both teams created a succession of chances, the best coming when Gray's throw into the Henbury box found Gerrard, who poked a foot out at the ball, only for Carey to make another incredible stop from point-blank range.
Neither side managed to find the net again, although Carey made another couple of brilliant saves, the best from a powerful Gerrard strike. Without the Henbury keeper's heroics, his team could easily have ended the first game five or six goals down instead of at 1-1.
Yate provided the first threat in game two when Callum Cooper's long ball found Ethan Pullen, who sliced his left-footed attempt wide of goal.
The home side went close when a long free-kick from Scott Ford came off the head of Yate's Kieran Edgeworth and looped dangerously towards his own goal. Thankfully for Henbury, the ball landed on the crossbar before bouncing over for a corner.
Henbury's next effort came when they managed to work the ball wide to Daniel Stone, but his shot was well kept out by Corey Kelly.
Conor Meehan excelled for Henbury with some accomplished defensive work as Yate piled forward but the pressure finally paid off when Dwyer beat two men, was tackled, then won the ball back off the defender before slotting it past keeper Callum Archer.
Henbury pushed forward in search of an equalsier but fell further behind when Dwyer set off on a mazy run through the heart of the midfield before unselfishly passing the ball to Lewis Jones. His shot was saved but the rebound fell to Dwyer, who tucked it away comfortably.
Yate quickly made it 3-0 after Jones broke free down the right wing. He was tackled by Meehan but retrieved the ball and managed to poke it across goal to the far post where Dwyer was waiting to complete his hat-trick and hand his team a 4-1 aggregate lead.
A few minutes later, Yate earned a penalty when Dwyer won the ball in the box before being tripped by Meehan. Dwyer stepped up to take the spot-kick and drilled it through the legs of Archer for his, and Yate's, fourth goal of the game.
Henbury refused to give up and immediately pulled one back when Ford won the ball on the halfway line, drove into the box and guided it around Kelly and into the far corner of the net.
Yate restored their four-goal advantage straight from the kick-off, Dwyer bursting through the middle before playing the ball wide to Jack Tavener, who fired it past Archer from wide on the right to make it 5-1.
As the flurry of goals continued, Henbury grabbed their second of the game when Ford ran into the box and, after seeing his first shot saved, rolled the rebound towards the far post where Charlie Lamb made sure the ball found the net.
Unfortunately, it was too little too late for Henbury as Yate ran out deserved winners.
