The Ridings' International Yate Academy could be hit by the

newly announced cuts in the education budget.

The £16m redevelopment of The Ridings School into the new

academy is now in doubt after the new government announced its severe cuts to

the education system.

Michael Gove declared that Labours ‘Building Schools For The

Future’ (BSF) scheme would be scrapped and a new list of 123 academy projects

would have to be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

The International Yate Academy was the results of King

Edmund Schools closure it becoming a federated academy with The Ridings.

Chairman of the trustees of the federation, Mike Hayward has

announced that they would not take this news lying down.  Although not a BSF scheme the academy

could still face issues.

Luckily the scheme is already well funded by the government

and has received hundreds of thousands of pounds to reach this advanced stage

of development. The plan now is to review each detail of the process and ensure

they put their best case forward for further funding.

It is important to state that the Yate project has not been

lined up for stoppage but just a review.

I would hope that the project is completed with its full

funding. What would the impact be if funding for this project were suspended?

It would be a shame if the full funding for this project were cut short now. I hope that it is one of the 123 projects under consideration that does get the green light.
