Man seriously injured in Yate attack

A man underwent surgery for a serious head injury after a fight broke out in Yate.

Police were sent to East Walk in the town's shopping centre at 2am on Sunday after receiving reports that a large number of youths were involved in the fracas.

A Great Western Ambulance Service crew took the injured 23-year-old man to Frenchay Hospital, where it is believed he was operated on soon after arrival.

Police said two 20-year-old men were arrested on suspicion of assault and officers are appealing for witnesses.
