Ofwat announce that bills for Bristol Water customers to remain the same

Ofwat the water regulator has told water companies across the country including Bristol Water that bills must remain very much the same up until 2015. Not counting for inflation the average bill will be £3 lower in 2015 than it is today. This is about £34 lower per household than the water companies asked for.
The Ofwat Chief Executive Regina Finn said "People can shop around to get the best deal on many things, but not on water. Our job is to do this for them."
Ofwat have allowed the water companies to invest £22 million each, which will be an investment of £935 for each household in the country by the year 2015.
The largest amount of the money, £12.9 billion, is going into maintaining and replacing assets, such as replacing leaking pipes. £4.6 billion will be spent to improve the quality of drinking water and to protect the environment.
Huge advances have been made since the 1990s with leakage down by around a third since its peak in the mid 1990s. Around 339,000 fewer customers are at risk of low pressure today, a reduction of 99%.
The number of properties at risk of sewage flooding has been reduced by 75%, and bathing waters in England and Wales which meet the minimum standard have increased from 78% to 98%. Our drinking water now compares with the best in Europe with 99.96% meeting quality standards.
