I have just been reading about the Barratt Homes plans for

the Yate Rocks area.

It appears that there is a great deal of worry over

proposals for so many new homes in Yate and this latest report suggests that

Barratt Homes have put forward plans for a total of 250 homes opposite Peg Hill

Skate Park.

Although the main worry is the affect it will have on the

Yate Rocks area, there is now real concern for the safety of

those who will move into the new housing estates.

There are issues around the safety of Peg Hill due to the

speed of the road.  There have been

previous campaigns for a speed reduction in the area and with new homes

bringing greater pedestrian and vehicular traffic; the issue will need to be

addresses.

As I have said before, I would like to see plans for a

greater road infrastructure, public transport and implementations for heavier

pedestrian traffic, before I see plans for homes.

I don’t like to think that homes come first. It has to be a

question of whether the roads can cope, and that there is a capability to increase

road safety.

There will be a public exhibition of the plans on Saturday

17th July at Yate Parish Hall on Station Road.

With so many concerns over the capabilities of the Water and waste infrastructure in Yate, I think it does need to be addressed or at least improvements outlined in plans. Its very well to propose ideas and plans and then look at the amenities after, but this is where many developers end up wasting time and money. They don't plan well enough from the start. I want to know if Yate can cope or has the ability to cope before we knock up more and more houses.

Surely this proposed development is in the parish of Yate, not Sodbury.

I don't understand why people ( in general) immediately rail against any development proposal before looking at what has been proposed in detail.

! don't think for a minute Barratts are proposing to build two tower blocks or 5 storey tenaments.
Barratts are one of the better builders around . Their current development in Hanham seems to tick lots of boxes such as mixed house types, zero carbon emmission etc.

It's up to the council to determine if the proposed development needs infrastructure improvements and then impose that burden upon the developer.
