Two local Schools, Raysfield Infants and Brimsham Green Secondary, were both given good Ousted reports after inspections this autumn.

Raysfield, which has 169 pupils, was given a full inspection which observed fourteen lessons, looked at the pupils' work, lesson plans, and development plans. Meetings were held with groups of pupils, staff, governors and parents. In addition a questionnaire was filled in by 52 parents.

The school scored a 1, which is outstanding , for overall effectiveness, and also for the school's capacity for sustained improvement and individual outcomes for pupils. Pupils' were assessed as responding exceedingly well to challenges and as trying very hard to improve their work. The vast majority of the parents felt very positive about the school and felt it provided a high level of care and education for their children.

Brimsham Green School, Broad Lane, was given an Ofsted subject survey inspection looking at history teaching, which took place over one day. Four lessons were observed and interviews with pupils' and staff and analysis of pupils' work, was taken into consideration.

All aspects of history teaching in the school were found to be good. The school offers a good range of courses to meet pupils' different needs, together with numerous visits to sites of historical importance. The year 7 and 8 curriculum includes a humanities approach to linking the subject to the community. The inspection noted that pupils' benefit from strong support, including a good revision programme in year 11 to help prepare them for exams.
