Yate Community Music Festival Is A Success

Whilst 170,000 made their way to the Glastonbury Festival, over 8,000 people made their way to Yate’s own music festival in Kingsgate Park over the weekend.

Revellers were treated to local bands performing the gigs of their lives in front of record crowds on Saturday and festival goers were also treated to gymnastics and dance performances.

The festival is put together by Yate Town council and has grown in strength during its five years.

The festival is a brilliant opportunity for young talent to show exactly what they can do and gain some local support. The festival this year was a wash with home grown talent including Area 51 and Sox.

I think this festival is such a brilliant way for local people to appreciate just how much you can do in the area and is a great way to show young and people what can be achieved with a little effort and talent.

The weather was a bonus for this years festival and made it all the more enjoyable for the festival goers.

Who knows, one day maybe these small local bands will make their way to the big stage at Glastonbury?

Did you go to the music festival this year? What was your highlight?

Thoroughly enjoyed the music festival again this year and it gets better year on year. Great crowds, great bands, perfect weather. One highlight for me were 'Uncle Buck' probably the best covers band in this area. I saw them play The royal Oak recently and they blew the place apart. They were equally good on the festival stage and hope to see more of them in the future. The biggest highlight though were up and coming Bristol Indie band 'Indigo Lights'. They played a very well crafted set of tuneful, original songs that had a real flavour of 'The ****s' about them. So much so I'll be going to their album launch gig at The Tunnels, Bristol in July. The organisers have set the bar even higher for next years festival and I for one, will be hoping they can once again reach new heights. This festival has become Yate's no 1 community event.

What a fantastic weekend for Yate. It was a brilliant event that everyone from toddlers to grandparents enjoyed.
