Yate's New Tesco Is Underway
The new Tesco Extra store is due to be completed in late 2011 and will replace the current Tesco we have in Yate. The current store will remain open up to and over the busy Christmas period but after this a new temporary store has been planned but the location of this store has yet to be revealed.
This week preparations began to enable contractors to start the first build phase of the project. To allow contractors to begin work on the new store, the bollards next to the Texaco on the link road have been removed.
These bollards were put in place to aid traffic flow and since their removal; people have begun parking in this area causing major traffic delays around the area. The road works are set to take five months to complete so we could see traffic chaos for roughly this time period.
It seems we are set for large scale chaos during these renovations and improvements to not only the store, but the parking and bus services to the shopping centre.
I am hoping that they put in place another safety measure to replace these bollards as I feel they provided a great deal to the traffic and safety problems around the Texaco and Link Road area.
What concerns have you got during these major building works? Are you concerned about the safety of those on the roads and in the shopping centre whilst major construction is completed?

Thank you for letting YatePeople know that the bollards are not part of the Tesco development. It is also good to know that there is a robust traffic management plan in place to stop major distrubtion. This is what YatePeople is all about, collating facts and information about the local community. This is where people can come and discuss issues in the community and voice their opinion. It is good to see that those in the know take the time to answer questions and dissolve issues. Please continue to update YatePeople on the situations regarding the Tesco development. We appreciate all contributions to the site.

ReportAs the Public Affairs Consultant to Yate Shopping Centre and Tesco on this project, I can confirm that the cones were not removed in connection with the forthcoming works at The Centre. I understand they were placed there as part of the recent resurfacing works going on in the vicinity and have been removed by SGC.
Furthermore, I must stress that both Tesco and Yate Shopping Centre have a robust traffic management plan in place to ensure that traffic disturbance will be kept to an absolute minimum during the forthcoming works. We will be monitoring the situation closely as It is of the utmost importance that the Shopping Centre fuctions fully during all works so that the customers and traders can get on with their day-to-day business.

ReportYou can't make an Omellette without cracking a few eggs.
Likewise, the pain of the disruption to the road system and from the subsequent development will be worth the improvements.
I suggest people in Yate try to be patient and I'm sure it will be worth it.
