Mary and Elizabeth Connors, aged 18 and 24, appeared before Northavon Magistrates Court on Monday. The women from Yate were charged with five counts of burglary.

South Glos. police are appealing for people living in Downend to check their property after five burglaries in the area on Friday Feb.19th. The break-ins happened between 7.30pm and 9.30pm within half a mile of the Badminton Road, Downend.

The thieves let themselves in through unlocked doors, even though the householders were in at the time. They were challenged by three residents, and they made various excuses and left. Police recovered a laptop, a handbag and bank cards, which residents had not realised were missing until the police contacted them.

The women were arrested after one resident phoned the police to report that he had disturbed the women in his home, and the police had made the arrest within five minutes of the phone call.

If anyone saw anything on Friday night, or has something missing from their house, or had a visit from them that has not been reported to the police, they should phone Staplehill Police on 9845 456 7000.

The women have been committed to appear at Bristol Crown Court on 22nd March.
