Are you concerned over Yate Care Home closures?

Part of South Gloucestershire’s plans for two new state of the art care homes and additional 700 care housing units means current elderly care homes in Yate will have to close to make way for the new development.

Elderly residents who currently reside in the care homes ear marked for closure have to find alternative accommodation until the development is complete in 2013.

Residents at Wapley court are led to believe that the assessment process for closure and relocation will begin earlier than suspected and could start as early as this autumn but could take until 2012 to complete the closure.

Residents and their relatives are becoming increasingly anxious as to the conditions of the relocation and the timings.

It is understandable that relatives would not wish to move the residents as it can sometimes take a lot of persuasion to get them into the homes initially.  The prospect of discussing temporary accommodation and the idea of moving patients twice in order to build the new accommodation is going to be a daunting challenge.

It does seem that a lot of extra pressure is being placed on the situation by uncertainty the lack of clarity over dates and closure times. I believe that when it comes to elderly residents, there should be a strict, unchangeable plan. Elderly residents require stability.

Are any you affected by the closures of Wapley house? Do you think there is a better way of handling the re-housing of the residence?

Do you have a relative in Wapley House yourself? There needs to be a concrete programme in place so the residents aren't left in limbo. It really isnt good enough.

Re Wapely House. At the present time there is total chaos regarding the future of residents here. Many different stories are circulating & it seems to be impossible to get hold of the facts. No one in any position of responsibility is able to to say what is going to happen to the current residents , or when.
This situation is causing relatives condiderable distress. It would be helpful if the council would make a statement to clarify this.

I hope that those currently in Wapley house are treated with dignity and care during the transition period. Obviously the new accomoadtion will be much better but no one likes change and it takes the eldery a lot longer to adjust to dramatic changes.
