CHILDREN at a Chipping Sodbury school have raised more than £800 for the Jessie May Trust charity.
The Year 6 pupils at Raysfield Junior School organised their own race for life-style obstacle course around the school field.
All pupils came into school on the last day of term wearing non-uniform, with many also wearing brightly coloured hats and wigs, making a donation to the cancer charity.
The event, which included a cake sale, was planned, prepared and organised by Class 6M.
Head teacher Jon Bird said all classes at the school had been challenged to plan an event each term to make a positive difference to others.
The race has been the biggest pupil-led activity so far.
Mr Bird said: “I am so proud of the children for the care, effort and commitment they have shown in preparing for this event.
“All across the school we have a growing tide of desire to make a difference and the year 6 have led the way with great success.”
The charity event came at the end of a week when all children in the school took park in a spring clean litter-pick around the school and neighbouring streets.
Singers and musicians from the school also gave a performance at Yate Library, as part of serving their community.
