Schools will celebrate wedding day

MANY schools in the Bristol area are planning to celebrate the royal wedding in style.

A host of playground parties are planned for next week in the three days that staff and pupils are back after Easter and before William and Catherine’s big day.

A dozen schools in the Brislington area have taken things further by organising an art exhibition on the theme What Makes Britain Great?

A collection of pupils’ best writing, film 2D artwork, sculpture, music and photographs will go on display at the event space at Paintworks on Wednesday, April 27.

Corinne Breingan, marketing and PR manager for Brislington Enterprise College (BEC), said: “This is a wonderful opportunity for schools to come together to demonstrate creatively what Great Britain means to them. Expect a room packed full of artefacts which young people have taken, in many cases, weeks to produce. We makes this even more special is the wide range of contributors – we have nursery children right up to those taking their GCSEs.”

The schools taking part are: BEC, Holymead Infants, Holymead Junior, St Phillips Marsh Nurser, Burnbush Primary, Waycroft Primary, Broomhill Infants, Broomhill Junior, St Anne’s Infants, West Town Lane Primary, St Bernadette’s Primary and St Anne’s Park Primary.

Some children at Barton Hill Primary School and Children’s Centre will be taking part in a parent and child workshop where they will collaboratively create a textile artwork in celebration of the royal wedding.

St Mary’s Primary in Yate is planning an old English sports afternoon as well as a crown and tiara parade and an attempt to create a giant Union Jack out of red, white and blue cupcakes.

Pupils at Summerhill Infant School in St George will taking part in maths and literacy activities based on royalty.
