St Paul's Primary School To Get Growing!
Children from four schools in Bristol each collected large numbers of vouchers in order to win the opportunity to gain their very own allotments built at their schools.
Local construction firm Leadbitter will be building the new allotment space at St Paul’s Primary school. The allotment space will allow children to grown their own fruit and vegetables at school. The opportunity to grow vegetables on the allotment will encourage children to get in to their own gardens at home and to learn more about the environment.
It is amazing how little some children know about the origins of their food. I hope that this project will encourage more schools to install allotment space and will show children just how much fun growing fruits, vegetables and flowering plants can be.
I hope that this will be a project that continues to flourish at the schools and won’t be a passing phase. It is so important children learn how to be more eco-friendly and sustainable.
What do you think about the project? Do you think more schools should have this space available to students?
Comments
It will be a great scheme as long as they maintain the allotments for years to come and it is not just a flash in the plan scheme. It should be a great way to introduce youngsters to the world of plants and growing their own food. Hopefully it should encourage them to try more vegetables and to eat more healthily too.
