Road Driving

Why are so many drivers using a left hand turn signal at a Roundabout or T-junction when they intend to drive straight across.
Signals warn and inform other road users of their intended actions and should
be used so not to confuse others.
This 'BAD' habit is prevalent everywhere, an example being Westerleigh Road/ St. Briavels, its laughable to see if the driver is about to turn onto Yate Common !! however it is in fact very serious and should cease.

I have to agree the two roundabouts mentioned, the shireway and railway bridge and the the B&Q roundabout are, not matter how long you have been driving, negotiated correctly. Everyone seems to follow different rules. The number of near misses i have seen and almost had is unbeleivable.

ReportDepending on the amount of road miles driven, if you have 50 years driving experience you have amassed a vast amount of skills and knowledge along the way, but to err is to be human. But I totally concur with the rest of your posting, especially the brake lights scenario, and the lack of courtesy or forethought for other road users. Try negotiating that roundabout you mentioned ( iron acton road ) with 40' of trailer behind you. Nightmare. BAM will improve most peoples driving thats for certain.

ReportBefore we start criticising people indicating when they *may not* need to, it'd be far more helpful to encourage people to indicate when they actually should. There almost seems to be a laziness these days, where increasing numbers of drivers simply don't bother to indicate at junctions - and cause other people (pedestrians and vehicles) inconvenience as a result. I find it quite rude and selfish.
The B&Q/Morrisons roundabout is a prime case in point, as is the one by the football ground. For as long as some other road user might benefit from a signal (or to rephrase it, unless you are 110% sure no-one will benefit), it is basic common courtesy to give one. But then just like so many drivers will sit on their footbrake for extended periods and dazzle the vehicle behind without caring - courtesy is sadly going out of the window these days.
A little rant maybe, but the point is 100% serious. Just some food for thought though - none of us are really in a position to criticise other people's driving until we're perfect ourselves. And the perfect driver simply doesn't exist - you can have 50 accident-free years behind the wheel, you're still a learner!!

ReportI disagree moonwalker. It,s simply a courtesy to oncoming traffic to inform them they are going straight through. How many times have you had to virtually stop at said roundabout before the other drivers intentions are known. But my two pet hate roundabouts are, B&Q the lane discipline is confusing, if you are travelling passed Pisces towards the courts, nearly had a few accidents as I negotiate through this badly set out nightmare. Please council revisit this one, lane markings may help. The other one is by the railway bridge, traffic hurtle down shireway going straight through. They seem to think they have right of way. I have seen many near misses here. As for the T-junction I must confess I have not come across that one, that does seem strange !
